Beginning with its first rehearsal in a local church in 1977, the Norristown Chorale has brought a rich heritage of choral music to the Montgomery County area. Now more than 50 voices meet weekly during the school year to study, enjoy, and perform sacred and secular music. The Chorale has gained recognition for artistry and high standards while it encourages participation from a broad base of the community.
The Chorale performs a repertoire of choral music spanning the centuries - from early renaissance through contemporary works. A wide variety of music has been presented, from great choral masterworks such as Mozart's Requiem and Handel's Messiah selections, to smaller a capella and accompanied works by various composers throughout the history of music. Popular pieces, madrigals, spirituals, folk songs, and show tunes are also included in the Chorale's repertoire, which numbers over 250 works.
The Chorale has presented major works with the Ambler Symphony Orchestra and Christmas programs with the Pottstown Symphony Orchestra. In addition, it has showcased compositions of local composers and performed arrangements by some of its members.
The Chorale has become an integral part of the Norristown community through performances in schools, churches, hospitals, retirement homes, and other institutions in the greater Norristown and Montgomery County area. Through innovative programs, the Chorale has entertained a growing number of area residents who generously support the annual winter and spring concerts through their attendance and financial support.
